Can a Vitamin B12 Deficiency Cause Hair Loss?

Healthy hair follicles are amazingly productive. While the speed of hair growth varies by individual, on average, follicles can produce around six inches of hair per year.

To keep these tiny hair factories strong and active, it’s important to eat a well-balanced diet, full of the nutrients hair cells need to divide and grow. One of those vital nutrients is B12, also known as cobalamin. B12 promotes healthy hair growth by assisting in the production of oxygen-rich red blood cells, which feed hair follicles.

How Vitamin B12 and Hair Growth Are Connected
Your hair is made of a protein called keratin. This substance is dead, which is why it doesn’t hurt when you get your hair cut. But, your hair follicles, located just under the surface of your skin, are very much alive. In fact, the bulb, which is the bottom part of the follicle, is made up of the fastest growing cells in the human body, dividing every 23 to 72 hours. At the base of the bulb is the papilla, which contains blood vessels. Its main job is to connect your follicles to your body’s blood supply to deliver the oxygen and nutrients necessary for hair growth. Since B12 helps produce red blood cells, having enough of this vitamin is essential to the hair growth process.

Sources of Vitamin B12
Because the human body doesn’t produce vitamin B12, it’s important to get this nutrient from your diet. B12 can be found in animal-based foods such as fish, poultry, meat, dairy and eggs. The majority of Americans get enough B12 from these sources. But, this vitamin doesn’t exist in plant-based foods, so vegans and vegetarians should talk to their doctors about adding B12 supplements or B12-fortified foods to their diet.

Health Problems Due to a Vitamin B12 Deficiency
Vitamin B12 is essential for overall health, not just hair growth, so a deficiency could cause multiple problems including anemia. With a minor deficiency of B12, there may be no symptoms. But, if the deficiency isn’t addressed, it could have serious repercussions such as heart palpitations, shortness of breath, nerve problems and depression. In addition, age, Crohn’s or celiac disease, immune system disorders, heavy drinking and weight loss surgery can make it harder for your body to absorb B12, which could lead to a deficiency.

Taking a B12 Supplement for Hair Loss
If you’re experiencing hair loss and suspect a B12 deficiency may be the culprit, talk to your doctor about ruling out any serious underlying health problems. Your doctor can also give you a blood test to check your B12 level and help you decide if a supplement is right for you. There are many different types of hair loss and only a medical professional can determine the exact cause.

Benefits of Using Electronic Pulse Massager for Pain

The process of electrical stimulation involves low-level electrical impulses carried in the muscles to stimulate them and force them to contract. As per the Food and Drug Administration of the USA, these devices are marketed illegally as shortcuts for binding the muscles and definition. As per the FDA, these devices shouldn’t be used for six-pack abs as they are unrealistic. But still, you will find these devices are used for therapeutic purposes in several places.

As per several therapists and reviewer, they get relieved from pain when they use electronic pulse massager. Following are a few advantages of using electronic pulse massager:
Avoid Stress Sores
Electric muscular tissue excitement can efficiently decrease the threat of stress sores in susceptible individuals. Electric muscular tissue excitement can be used to the gluteus maximus of individuals who use wheelchairs.

Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is often incapacitating as well as an unpleasant problem brought on by the deterioration of joint cells. According to a medical research study released in the “Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation,” electric muscle stimulation was located to be a reliable part of physical treatment for senior clients that established total hip arthroplasty, after overall total hip replacement surgery. A vital advantage for movement and independence, electric muscle stimulator can reinforce knee extensor muscle.

Muscular Tissue Re-education
Muscular tissue re-education with electric muscle stimulator is utilized in the onset of physical recovery complying with an injury that has either left specific muscular tissues for an extended period, or that has actually impacted the mind. The objectives of this therapy are to develop fundamental tone as well as toughness in damaged muscular tissues as well as to require the tightening of these muscles in a collaborated pattern to enhance the cognitive link in between the mind and the activities.

Muscle mass Degeneration

L-arginine Benefits Heart Health & Exercise Performance

L-arginine (or arginine) is a type of amino acid, and as we know, amino acids are the “building blocks” of proteins. We obtain it from our diets, especially animal sources of protein foods, including beef and other types of red meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products.

In addition to occurring naturally in “complete proteins” that supply all the essential amino acids we need, L-arginine is also created in laboratory settings so it can be used to make supplements that benefit
How L-arginine Works: What Arginine Does
heart health, exercise performance, mental capabilities and much more.

While not exactly an “essential” amino acid — meaning an amino acid that the body cannot make on its own and, therefore, must get from outside sources — L-arginine is considered somewhat essential because it’s highly important for many functions yet usually present in low quantities, especially as someone gets older. One of the biggest benefits of taking arginine is its ability to improve blood flow and circulation. In the body, it is converted into nitric oxide, which causes blood vessels to open wider.

This has multiple benefits, including improving immune function, fertility, detoxification and brain power. Another important aspect of L-arginine is that it stimulates the production of certain hormones, especially beneficial growth hormones and insulin that help usher glucose into cells to be used for growth and energy output. This is one of the reasons it’s believed to enhance physical performance, stamina and strength.

Other L-arginine benefits include:
• fighting inflammation
• lowering risk for arteriosclerosis and heart attack
• repairing blood vessels
• fighting congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease
• helping lower high blood pressure
• improving athletic performance
• increasing immune function
• reducing muscle pains (especially in the legs caused by blocked arteries)
• improving kidney function
• improving mental capacity
• fighting dementia
• correcting impotence, erectile dysfunction and male infertility
• preventing the common cold

To dive a little further into the capabilities of L-arginine, it helps to understand how nitric oxide (NO) works in the body. Nitric oxide is a type of natural reactive gas that both plants and animals produce. It’s created using the amino acid L-arginine and nitric oxide synthase (making L-arginine its precursor) and is actually a type of byproduct that forms from many different chemical reactions. L-arginine is needed by the endothelial cells (the ones lining the inside of all blood vessels) in order to form enough nitric oxide to keep blood flowing freely.

The Use Of Pulse Oximeters For Assessing Blood Pressure

New research shows that assessing blood pressure can be done by fingertip pulse oximeters, a tool not generally used for that purpose.

University of British Columbia (UBC), USA, conducted research showing that quick and easy blood pressure monitoring could soon be at your fingertips with the use of pulse oximeters, so assessing blood pressure could now be taking a turn in providing medical assistance.
What do you know about pulse oximeters?
Lead researcher Mohamed Elgendi, an adjunct professor of electrical and computer engineering at UBC explains: “We found that the oximeter, which clips on to a finger or toe to measure heart rate and the amount of oxygen in the blood, can detect normal, elevated or high blood pressure with up to 95% accuracy.”

“This suggests that it can, with a few tweaks, do double duty as a BP monitor in the future.”

Hypertension or high blood pressure is linked to 1,100 deaths each day in the USA alone, therefore it is vital to regularly monitor people at risk. Such conditions could also lead to poor blood flow, heart disease and even strokes. The challenge however, has been that current methods of assessing blood pressure has limitations.

“While the inflatable cuff is easy to use, its accuracy depends on its placement on the arm and the observer’s skill.” adds Elgendi.

“Another technique, intra-arterial blood pressure measurement, is highly accurate but invasive, requiring the doctor to insert a needle into an artery.”

The first study to provide evidence of the effectiveness of pulse oximeters
According to Elgendi, past studies have explored using pulse oximeters for assessing blood pressure, but the UBC study is the first to provide supportive evidence based on actual patient records and the first to examine large sample sizes obtained in two different countries, that being China and the USA.

“The consistent presence of these patterns in data collected from two different countries proves that the pulse oximeter is a reliable tool for hypertension assessment.”

“When we added electrocardiogram data to oximeter data, we were able to improve the detection of pre-hypertension.”

Elgendi and his team are working together to find a way of replicating their studies on other groups of patients. They’re also refining their algorithm so that it can be used on a larger scale by oximeter manufacturers.
